essential oils for joy and happiness

Here’s the essential oils I have that are said to be oils of joy:

Frankincense, Grapefruit, Peppermint, Lemon, Myrrh, and Geranium

bible verses on the oil of joy

In one of the books I’ve read on essential oils (“Healing Oils of the Bible“, by David Stewart), there is a chapter about the “Oil of Joy” in the Bible…

Psalm 45:7 – “Therefore God, thy God, hath anointed thee with the oil of gladness above thy fellows. All thy garments smell of myrrh, aloes, and cassia out of the ivory palaces, whereby they have made thee glad.”

Proverbs 27:9 – Solomon said, “Ointment and perfume rejoice the heart.”

Isaiah 61:1,3 – “The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me, because the Lord hath anointed me; to preach good tidings to the meek, …to give unto them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning.”

Hebrews 1:9 – Thou has loved righteousness, and hated iniquity: therefore God, even thy God, hath anointed thee with the oil of gladness.”

here’s a few paragraphs from the book…

“These verses are suggesting that anointing oils are vehicles of joy, gladness and rejoicing. Essential oils are known to have positive mood altering properties. The anointing oils of the Bible always contained essential oils such as frankincense, myrrh, aloes (sandalwood), cassia and others which are all known to have emotional impacts that are positive and uplifting.”

“The people of the Bible seemed to understand the benefits of essential oils and diffused the fragrances in their homes and synagogues and rubbed them on their bodies as well. They might not have understood how, but they knew by experience that certain perfumes, ointments and incenses brought joy to their hearts, relieved their stresses, brought them peace and calmness, clarified their thinking, uplifted their spiritual awareness, and assisted them in their prayers, worship, and daily living.”

“The Bible does not tell us what specific oils were in mind when the writers referred to oils of joy or gladness. Psalms 45:7 suggests myrrh, aloes (sandalwood) and cassia as oils of gladness. Mint, another Biblical oil, has been suggested as an oil of gladness, inasmuch as this was the scent often diffused in the Jewish tabernacles, along with the holy incense containing galbanum, frankincense and onycha.”

essential oils enhance happiness

Essential oils that are said to enhance happiness are: frankincense, myrrh, sandalwood, cassia, cedarwood, lavender, coriander, rosewood, jasmine, chamomile, rose, bergamot, mandarin, lemon, ylang ylang, geranium, elemi, melisa, neroli, orange, patchouli, basil, cinnamon bark, clary sage, lemongrass and palmarosa. I read that some people have been able to eliminate their dependence on antidepressants by inhaling, diffusing oils in their homes or rubbing them on their bodies.

So this is another benefit of using essential oils…they bring you happiness, plus they smell good!

an email from a friend with a tip on happiness…

“Most people know that if you want to be healthy and beautiful, you have to eat right and exercise. But what most people are missing is a third and most important piece of the puzzle! — Happiness! If you want to be healthy and beautiful, you have to get happy! Why? Happiness looks beautiful–your emotions show up on your face eventually.”

“If you have true inner joy, that light is going to shine out on the world no matter what your age! If you aren’t happy, you won’t bother looking good…cultivating a happy spirit will allow you to always look your best, from the inside out! It will also ensure that you always make the best choices for your health!”

“If you aren’t happy, you won’t bother taking care of your health. If you are depressed, you are probably unconsciously and subtly sabotaging your health. Happiness–the emotion–makes a number of healthy things happen in your body; it evens your blood pressure, allows more oxygen to flow to your cells, etc. In fact, happiness improves every function in your body. A happy person equals happy cells!”
