headache recipe
The other day a friend mentioned she had a headache. I got out my little bottle of “headache” essential oils and rubbed some on her temples and on the back of her neck. She then put a drop on the bottom of each foot. After about 20 minutes I asked her if the oils helped and she said she felt much better. The recipe I blended is:
headache recipe
1 oz. carrier oil (almond, jojoba, grapeseed, etc.)
10 drops peppermint
10 drops rosemary
10 drops lavender
5 drops frankincense
Any one of these oils alone can help relieve a headache. In my notes I have this: “Peppermint appears to prevent your body from sending pain signals to your central nervous system. According to one German study, peppermint works as well as 1,000 mg of acetaminophen.”
Lavender is also supposed to be calming and help headaches. You can soak your feet (or body) in a tub of hot water with a few drops of lavender oil in it. The lavender in the air from the steam also helps when you inhale it.
Lavender and tea tree oil can be put directly on your skin, but I’ve read it’s best if most essential oils are diluted with a carrier oil, especially if you have sensitive skin. I’ve been using grapeseed oil lately for this. You have to be careful not to get the essential oils too close to your eyes or, for example, peppermint fumes can make them burn.
What’s cool about the essential oils is that they are good for so many things that if you’re using an essential for a headache, for example, it might help a sinus problem at the same time.
You can google something like “essential oils for headache” or “headache and aromatherapy” to learn more.
